A marine heatwave caused record-breaking heavy snowfall in February 2025

Hidetaka Hirata (A01-2), Tomonori Sato(A03-8), et al. showed that a marine heatwave associated with a warm oceanic eddy that had detached from the Kuroshio Extension caused the record-breaking heavy snowfall in Obihiro, Hokkaido Prefecture, in February 2025., as presented in a paper of Scientific Online Letters on the Atmosphere (SOLA) and the press release and covered by TV Asahi etc.
