2025 Summer Observation Campaign off Sanriku #22

Posted: 2025.07.06

At the Seisui-maru, the sea turtles were released from the evening to the night of July 5th. The larger turtles weighed just under 150kg, and the smaller ones weighed about 35kg. Moving them from the tank to the release device was not an easy task. They would flap their arms and legs and sometimes bite. Five sea turtles were released in three locations: inside and outside the warm eddy, and in between.

After that, from dawn until early morning on July 6th, we conducted hourly continuous observations while crossing the sea surface temperature front from north to south. We encountered the thickest fog in the cruise, which excited everyone. It seemed worth analyzing. With this, all observations were completed, and the Seisui-maru is on its way home.
