2025 Summer Observation Campaign off Sanriku #1
The first observation campaign of Habitable Japan has begun. The Shinsei-maru and Seisui-maru will gather off the Sanriku coast from June 27 to 30, and together with a land-based unit in Otsuchi, Iwate, will conduct simultaneous ultra-high-resolution observations of the atmosphere and ocean to clarify the impact of high water temperatures on the Yamase.
Yesterday, the Shinsei-maru left Yokosuka port. Ryohei Yamaguchi (A01-1) is the chief researcher, leading Shusaku Sugimoto (A01-1), Naoya Takahashi and Hatsumi Nishikawa (A01-2), Eitarou Oka and Naohiro Kosugi (A02-4), Yumiko Obayashi (A02-5), Taketoshi Kodama and Toru Miyama (A03-7), Takahiro Yagi (A01-K106), Tey Cheng Yi, Raimu Yamauchi and Hou HungChun (ECHOES). In addition, Hidetaka Hirata (A01-2) and others provide support on land. The Seisui-maru will depart on the 25th.
The Shinsei Maru has just arrived at the first observation point, 400km east of Miyake-jima Island. Observations will begin shortly.
