It was reported that the body weights of many fish species have decreased in the waters surrounding Japan in the 2010s. We propose the hypothesis that “the decreased prey production associated with global climate change is intensifying competition among fish species for prey and causing the decline in fish weight in the 2010s,” for the phenomenon. We will test this hypothesis in this study. Specifically, we will investigate where and how the intra/interspecific competition for food (density effect) are acting around Japan by integrating a growth-migration-population dynamics coupled model of fish species under the output environments of marine ecosystem data assimilation by A02-6.
